McCready Health Announces PEARLS Award Winners for December 2016

Two outstanding McCready Health employees have the distinction of sharing the final Pearl Award for 2016. Myra Friedley, RN, and Warner Rayfield, both of Crisfield, Md., received McCready’s PEARLS recognition award for December 2016.

Friedley began her McCready career as an ER nurse in 2000. For more than two years now, she has served as an OR nurse and still works in the ER when needed. In fact, she was nominated for the award because of her critical thinking skills while working in the ER one night. To expedite the transfer of two critical patients who required higher levels of care, Friedley arranged alternative transportation to ensure a quicker transfer so that both patients received access to the level of care needed.

“I love taking care of our patients and learning new things every day,” she said. “I love my coworkers – we have a great team.”

Originally from Perth Amboy, N.J., she and her family moved to the Eastern Shore more than 30 years ago, when she took a position in the Human Resources Department at NASA’s Wallops Island facility. Watching her mother battle and eventually succumb to breast cancer motivated her to return to school for a complete and rewarding career change – she became a registered nurse.

For three years, Warner Rayfield has worked in Security at McCready, but recently stepped up to go “above and beyond” his normal job responsibilities to help a patient in need. Rayfield assisted with a critical pediatric patient in the ER one night – staying and helping in whatever way he could to assist in an emergency situation.

“I like the people here, making rounds and helping whenever I can,” he said. “I saw the parent come in very upset and I was trying to console him, and I ended up helping the staff with his child. We were able to stabilize the patient and transport the patient on the helicopter.”

“PEARLS” is an acronym for “Promoting Excellence And Recognizing Legendary Service.” Patients, residents and family members as well as McCready employees and volunteers are welcome to nominate a deserving associate by completing a PEARLS card. PEARLS cards and comment drop-boxes are located throughout the campus to collect all nominations.

As McCready Health’s latest recipients, both employees received a framed certificate and a gift certificate. Their names were also added to the engraved plaque in the hospital honoring all monthly PEARLS.
